It is with great joy that we invite you to celebrate our wedding with us, a special day we wish to share with our dearest ones.
They have been inseparable since then! Between pipettes, centrifuges, cell culture, and never-ending experiments, a story was born that went far beyond the laboratory.
Last year, they made the big decision to move to Vienna together, and they realised it was the perfect moment to take an even bigger step.
He was born in Italy in 1994. She was born in Portugal two years later. It seemed unlikely that their paths would ever cross, but fate had other plans. In 2021, Catarina was awarded a scholarship to begin her PhD at Cambridge… in the very same laboratory where Giacomo was already working on his.
Our story
He was born in Italy in 1994. She was born in Portugal two years later. It seemed quite improbable that their paths could cross, but the fate had other plans! In fact, Catarina won a scholarship in 2021 to start a PhD at Cambridge… precisely in the same laboratory where Giacomo was doing his!
They have been inseparable since then! Between pipettes, centrifuges, cell culture, and never-ending experiments, a story was born that went far beyond the laboratory.
Last year, they made the big decision to move to Vienna together, and they realised it was the perfect moment to take an even bigger step.
And now… we’re getting married! We can’t wait to celebrate this special day with you!

Where to stay in Porto
The area near Casa da Música is a great option since it’s close to the metro, the church, and the city center, although in reality any area of Porto would work. The only advice we can give is to look for accommodation near a metro station, especially if you plan to explore the city in the days before or after the wedding. If you prefer to get around by car, taxis and Uber are available throughout the city and are relatively cheap
How to get to the church
The church is located near Casa da Música and is well connected by the metro. The closest station is Carolina Michaelis, just a 6-minute walk.
If you are arriving by car, parking is available on the surrounding streets. Please allow extra time to find a spot
How to get to the reception venue
Transportation (by bus or taxi) from the church to the reception villa will be arranged for all guests who need it.
At the end of the evening, returning to the city center of Porto will be by taxi or Uber and will not be arranged, to avoid imposing schedules
What to visit/do in Porto
We recommend visiting the following places:
Torre dos Clérigos (nice view)
Palácio da Bolsa
Sé do Porto
Ribeira area (to walk alongside the river)
Mercado do Bolhão (lots of typical snacks, can also have small meals here)
Miradouro do Jardim do Morro (at sunset with a drink)
Majestic (café from belle epoque, sometimes with live piano music)
And doing the following activities:
Surf lesson at the beach (the waves are gentle, perfect for beginners)
Port wine caves tour with tasting. Booking on the website needed, there’s several options: Ferreira, Calem, Sandeman
Visit a Fado house - traditional Portuguese music, you can have dinner with live music and booking is needed. Multiple options: Casa da Mariquinhas (Catarina’s recommendation), Aniki, O Fado, Taberna real
What to eat/drink in Porto
We recommend trying the following:
Arroz de pato (duck rice – Giacomo’s favourite Portuguese dish)
Bacalhau (salted cod) in all its forms
Alheira (traditional Portuguese sausage)
Francesinha (sandwich layered with various meats, covered with melted cheese, and smothered in a hot tomato-based sauce) – a MUST in Porto
Pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart) – another MUST
Vinho Verde
Port wine (Tawny, Ruby and White)
Super Bock (local lager beer)
And eat at these restaurants:
For Francesinha: Brasão (there are several - Giacomo’s favourite), Verso em Pedra, Lado B
For other typical Portuguese food: Escondidinho, A Regaleira, O Buraco, Antunes
